Academic Support
Academic Advising
The Academic Advising Center
The Academic Advising Center (AAC) provides advising for General Studies, pre-major, non-degree students and students transitioning from one major to another. (All degree students are assigned an academic advisor in their major department. To find out who your advisor is, contact your major department.)
AAC advisors help students understand degree requirements, university policies and resources, plan classes over a series of semesters, explain options available, choose electives, and provide materials to help decide on the selection of a major. Learning style and career inventory services are available free of charge at the AAC. More information is available under Student Information at the AAC website. See address below.
Academic advisors and all services are available weekdays from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. throughout the summer. Schedule an appointment on the AAC‘s website.

Academic Computing
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides access to computing services and support for all UAF students, faculty and staff. Services include e-mail accounts, MyUA, Blackboard, faculty and staff web pages, and network access. Open computing labs with both Windows and Apple computer systems are available for all UAF students in the Bunnell building, Rasmuson Library study area and the Moore-Bartlett-Skarland Complex (MBS Complex).
UA ID
Your UA ID is the number that is on your PolarExpress Card and uniquely identifies you in the University System. With your UA ID and PIN you can login to UAF services like UAOnline. It is important to keep your UA ID and PIN private. Never share any passwords or PINS with anyone.
UA Username
Your UA Username is a standard identity used to login to the University’s central authentification service, AuthServ. It is comprised of your first initial, middle initial and your last name, followed by a number to make it unique. It provides access to many UAF systems including Blackboard, MyUA, EDIR, UAF Leadership and others. Use the Easy-Login-Maintenance-Option aka ELMO at http://elmo.alaska.edu, to lookup your UAF Username and maintain the password.
E-mail Username
An e-mail and computer LABS account is created for each student registered at UAF. Your E-mail Username and E-Mail password are used to register your computer on the UAF network and to access the library system. Use http://weblookup.uaf. edu to activate or lookup your E-Mail Username. Contact the onduty LABS consultant or the OIT Support Center for assistance with logging in.
Communication via E-mail
UAF uses e-mail to communicate with students on many important matters. E-mail is often the only way some information is distributed. The university automatically assigns each student an official UAF e-mail account when a student enrolls. You are responsible for knowing and acting on all university communications sent to your official UAF e-mail account. If you wish to receive university communications at a different e-mail address it is your responsibility to forward e-mail from your assigned UAF account to the e-mail address of your choice. Set your email to forward at www.alaska.edu/oit/email/mail_forwarding.xml.
MyUA
MyUA is your portal to UAF online services. Once you login to MyUA you can get to many of the University systems with just a click or two. MyUA automatically gets you into E-mail, Blackboard, UAOnline, the library, campus announcements, events and activities. MyUA gives you your own pages to personalize and organize the way that works best for you. You can link to other sites on the web. In MyUA you and your friends can create groups, share calendars, and find other friends.
Blackboard
The Office of Information Technology hosts Blackboard, an internet-based course management system that allows students and faculty to participate in classes delivered online or use online materials and activities to complement face-face teaching. Blackboard enables instructors to provide students with course materials, discussion boards, virtual chat, online quizzes, an academic resource center, and more. Instructors may offer resources such as lecture notes, PowerPoint slide presentations, or class handouts. If you’re enrolled in a course that uses Blackboard, be sure to find out how Blackboard will be used in that course.
