Late Fees
Late registration fee
Registration after the conclusion of the open registration/fee payment period is considered late and students will be charged a late fee of $50. No late fee is charged when adding a course to replace a canceled course or when gaining enrolled status from a waitlist.
Late payment fees
If you miss the scheduled deadline for fee payment, you will be charged a late payment fee of $100.
A $100 fee will be assessed on all accounts which are not paid by the withdrawal deadline. Students who pay for or drop their courses prior to the published payment deadline will NOT be required to pay the fee.
Late add fee
If you are given permission to add a class after the last day to pay tuition and fees, you will be charged a late fee of $50. No late fee will be charged when:
- you add a late start course during the regular registration period for that course, or
- you are moved into a class for which you were waitlisted, or
- you change from one section to a different section of the same course, or
- you add a course to replace a canceled course in which you were previously enrolled.
This fee is refundable only if all classes for which you have registered are canceled.
Consequences of Not Paying
If you do not pay, you will NOT be dropped from your courses. You will be responsible for all tuition and fees.
UAF may withhold transcripts, diplomas or grade reports from students who have not paid all financial obligations to the institution. Registration may be withheld from any student who is delinquent in paying any amount due to the university. Registration, meal plan and housing contracts may be canceled at any time for those who fail to meet installment contract payments or financial obligations. The registration process is not complete until the student has paid all fees and charges due the university.
UA Network Charge
The UA network charge covers rapidly rising costs, especially in the maintenance and enhancement of the university-wide technology infrastructure. A 2% network charge is applied on a course-by-course basis to tuition, and fees in lieu of tuition for credit and non-credit courses. The minimum network charge per course is $2.
Technology Fee
The technology fee of $5 per credit hour to a maximum of $60 is used to support academic technology.
Activity Fee
The activity fee of $2 per credit hour is used to support Student Activities in the summer.
Parking Fee
Students, faculty, staff or residents of UAF campus who park at UAF, UA Statewide, or Tanana Valley Campus facilities in Fairbanks, whether on or off campus, are required to have a parking decal or permit displayed on the vehicle. Employees may not purchase parking at student rates.
Decals may be obtained at either parking services offices. A payment receipt and the DMV registration form or documentation showing vehicle ownership are required. Decals are not valid until they are properly affixed to the assigned vehicle. The decal cost can be added online to your semester tuition and fees during fee payment, by using http://uaonline.alaska.edu or calling the Business Office at (907) 474-7384.
Fees are based on the combined credit hour enrollment at UAF, TVC and Center for Distance Education, or any class held at a UAF location where credit is given through another location.

Payment Plan
Students may be eligible for a Payment Plan Contract. A down payment of 25% is required unless financial aid is guaranteed. The cost of the payment plan is $50 and is added to the total fees due. Contact the Business Office for an appointment at (907) 474-7384.
Refunds
Tuition may be refunded to students who drop courses. The amount of the refund depends on the date the action is taken. See the Dates and Deadlines for refund dates. Material, field trip, technology, network, and activity fees are only refundable during the 100% refund period. Refund processing is automatic for students who officially drop courses by published refund deadlines. Refund processing may take 4–6 weeks.
Tuition Refund Petitions
Petitions for refund of university financial obligations may be granted when a student has been physically disabled, has experienced a death in the family, has a change in employment hours or location beyond the student’s control or has other extenuating circumstances. Written documentation of the condition is required (appeal forms may be obtained from the web at www.uaf.edu/business/ or from the Business Office, Center for Health and Counseling, Financial Aid Office and Student and Enrollment Services Office). Petitions are reviewed only if documentation of circumstances is provided. Petitions are reviewed only after a student has officially withdrawn from the course(s). After the fourth week of the semester, verification of attendance and participation is required from each instructor. Petitions must be filed by the last day of instruction for the term for which the petition is filed.
Canceled Courses
If your class is canceled, you may add another class of equal credit and level at no additional tuition cost. You must pay any additional fees. If you do not add a replacement course, the Business Office will automatically process a credit to your account.
Bookstore Refunds
The UAF Bookstore allows refunds on textbooks purchased for classes from which a student withdraws if a receipt is submitted and the book is in new condition. Returns must be made within seven days of the start of the class.
Student Insurance
Health Insurance
Health insurance is highly recommended for all students—especially students taking courses that involve outdoor activities or other elements of risk. International students are required to have health insurance.
Students enrolled in at least six credit hours during the summer are eligible to enroll in the university sponsored health insurance plan for a cost of $241. Students enrolled in fewer than six credit hours may enroll in the student plan only if they were enrolled in the student plan during the prior spring semester. Payment must be made at the UAF Business Office by June 6.
Students who are not eligible for the student plan are strongly encouraged to buy other student health insurance. Alternate student health insurance plans are available from a variety of national insurers.
Please read the student health insurance brochure carefully for details of the plan.

Accident Insurance
Supplemental student accident insurance is available to UAF students through the Statewide Office of Risk Management. Supplemental insurance covers injuries only, not personal health or sickness. Supplemental coverage is secondary to any other insurance a student may have. For information on student accident insurance see www.alaska.edu/risksafety/html/rmforms.xml.
