The Academic Advising Center provides students with academic planning assistance.

Rural Student Services
Rural Student Services (RSS) provides academic advising services for Native and rural college students and provides vital links with the Fairbanks campus community, rural communities, and other campuses throughout the state. Students may choose an RSS advisor who will provide academic advising and referrals to various academic support services on the Fairbanks campus. For more information, call RSS at 474-7871 or 1-888-478-1452. RSS hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Academic Computing
The Office of Information Technology provides and maintains central computing resources for UAF students, faculty and staff. Services include e-mail accounts, faculty and staff home pages, and access to the Internet. Open computing labs with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems are available for all UAF students in the Bunnell building and the 23-hour study area in the Rasmuson Library.
An e-mail account is created for each student registering at UAF. E-mail, lab access user ID and password information can be found online at http://weblookup.uaf.edu .

Blackboard
The Office of Information Technology hosts Blackboard, an internet-based course management tool used by instructors to offer classroom resources such as lecture notes, PowerPoint slide presentations, class handouts, or online quizzes. Blackboard also provides a discussion forum where instructors and students chat in real time. Blackboard enables instructors to provide instructional material to students 24/7 regardless of location.

Writing Center
The UAF Writing Center is an all-campus service staffed by tutors who will assist you at all phases of the writing process – planning, drafting, and revising. Tutors will collaborate with you or offer advice on your writing, whether it is a scratch outline, a full draft, or something in between. You can make an appointment for a 30-minute session or drop in for assistance. Additional Writing Center resources include a computer lab (with up to 25 pages of free printing per visit) and a wealth of print resources (dictionaries, style manuals, grammar handbooks and thesauruses).

Chapman Math Lab
Students needing help with mathematics or statistics will find it at the Math Lab. Individualized assistance is provided for students at all levels.
Math Lab hours are Monday-Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The second set of Developmental Math Lab Hours this summer are 7:30-8:30 instead of 7:15-8:15.

Developmental Education
The Department of Developmental Education helps under-prepared, linguistically diverse, and non-traditional students develop the academic and language skills necessary to successfully pursue their lifelong learning goals.
The department offers composition, mathematics, reading, and study skills courses that prepare students to advance to the next academic level. The staff uses placement and retention advising, tutoring, and a developmental teaching philosophy to help students succeed. A Developmental Math Lab (305 Gruening) is staffed by tutors to provide assistance.

Student Support Services
The
Student Support Services
(SSS) program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their bachelor’s degree.
Services include tutoring, academic advising and mentoring, cultural and social engagement, use of laptop computers, labs, and other technological resources, as well as direct financial assistance to qualified Pell Grant recipients.
To receive services a student must have academic need and meet one of the following criteria: financially limited according to federal criteria, be a first generation college student (meaning neither parent has earned a baccalaureate degree), or have documented a physical or learning disability. All participants must be U.S. citizens or have legal status as Permanent Residents and must be enrolled in at least six credits.

Center for Distance Education
