About Summer Sessions
Welcome to Summer@UAF
Each summer it is a wonderful opportunity to create a program that meets the needs of our students, community members and visitors from outside Fairbanks. We strive to create a welcoming atmosphere on our campus that encourages people to come and be a part of this great institution. Whether you are taking a class or going to a lecture, you are definitely a part of our university community.
Each new year gives us the opportunity to raise the bar and provide a Summer@UAF that is better than the year before. To that end, the breadth of courses offered keeps growing. With a bit of determination and planning, many students can finish their education in even less than the traditional four years. Summer schedules are very busy and our offerings come in many timeframes. This is definitely not a one-size-fits-all shop. The 2009 UAF summer camps for emerging scholars span many interest areas from entomology to cooking, from visual arts to Spanish. In addition, there are campus tours, free movies, concerts, and lectures. The Alaska Book Festival, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theater and the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival round out the summer’s must do activities. Finally, do not forget that Michael Feldman’s “Whad’Ya Know?” is returning for another live show, Friday, August 7.
Our theme this summer is sustainability. As an educational institution we have an obligation to take a leadership role as an advocate for preserving our community, our state, our nation, and our world. We all share this planet. The research that is happening at UAF helps us to understand the elements that are contributing to global and atmospheric changes. We know there are a myriad of ways that each one of us can contribute to sustaining a good quality of life and preserving the earth’s resources so that this incredible place will be here for future generations. Throughout this catalog you will find many ideas that you as an individual can contribute to this noble effort. Together we can make a difference.
