About

Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning has a mission: to provide support for our students to graduate sooner with less debt; partake in genuine, once-in-a-lifetime Alaska experiences and to offer unique, educational opportunities for our community. In addition to increasing our student body by reaching out to both international students and American students outside of Alaska, we strive to serve our current students more effectively by designing the necessary programs, events and classes to fit their needs.

We are a multifaceted program. While primarily offering credit courses in the summer, there are many other learning opportunities offered year round. WINTERmester is an intensive session during the first two weeks of January where students can complete a three-credit class in two weeks. MAYmester, the two weeks following Mother’s Day, provides the same opportunity. Non-credit classes are offered year round. We host dozens of day camps for children each summer. Each year educational tours go to international destinations to learn about their cultural, natural, and political history. And during the summer we provide a minimum of forty free events consisting of movies, lectures and concerts.
