2011 SPE Western Region Student POSTER Contest
This year, in addition to the usual SPE student paper contest, UAF SPE student chapter also has the honor of hosting the inaugural student POSTER contest in conjunction with the 2011 SPE WRM. Today, at the WNAR council meeting the idea of a poster contest was discussed at length and unanimously approved by the council. The primary motivating factor behind holding the poster contest is to provide a wider exposure to other students that are not lucky to compete in the paper contest, which limits the number to two in each division per SPE guidelines. Currently, SPE does not have any guidelines for conducting the poster contest, therefore, to the extent possible, we will try to follow the ones that are applicable for the paper contest. So, each chapter has been given the opportunity to send 2 poster contestants in each division. This means we can send 4 (2 for paper and 2 for poster) contestants in each of the divisions.
If you are interested in participating in the poster contest, please discuss this with your adviser and forward your abstracts to me no later than March 21. If we have several students interested in BS and MS divisions, we will need to conduct an internal competition to choose the top two contestants. Final decision will be taken collectively by PETE faculty after judging the student work and presentations after March 21.
The current plan is to have all the posters set-up by Sunday afternoon on May 8 for judging to take place that evening during the ice-breaker. Please watch your email for additional information on the room in Sheraton and poster sizes etc., which will be conveyed to you in due course.
With everyone's support and participation I am hoping for a successful inaugural poster contest; a tradition which will perhaps continue in the future.
2011 SPE Western Region Student PAPER Contest
The 2011 SPE Western Region student paper contest will take place on May 8 in conjunction with the SPE Western Region Meeting in Anchorage. This year UAF's SPE student chapter has the honor of being the host chapter for this contest. This contest is a great opportunity for undergraduate as well as graduate students to present their work and compete with students from other universities in the Western North America Region. Per SPE policies we can send up to two students in the BS and MS division.
If you are interested in participating in the contest, please discuss this with your adviser and forward your abstracts to Abhijit Dandekar no later than March 21. If we have several students interested in both divisions, we will need to conduct an internal competition to choose the top two contestants. Final decision will be taken collectively by PETE faculty after judging the student work and presentations after March 21. I have to forward the selected contestant names and their abstracts to SPE no later than April 8 and 15 respectively.
