UAF adopted its first strategic plan, UAF 2000, more than a decade ago. The plan provided valuable guidance and charted the university's direction through the fiscal challenges of the 1990s. In the subsequent 2000 review of the document and evaluation of university accomplishments, the university community recommended only slight modification of the goals to bring them up to date with present circumstances. Over the next year, significant efforts were directed at the revision of strategies, including indicators, or measurements of success, developed with campus-wide input. The Chancellor's Cabinet formally adopted Strategic Plan: UAF 2005 in July 2001.

Strategic Plan 2010 efforts were formally initiated in February 2005.  Strategic Planning Committee members, representing a cross-section of university and community stakeholders, have been appointed and are expected to complete the plan by the end of the 2005 calendar year.

The SPC will:

  • review the current UAF mission statement
  • analyze UAF's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • SWOT results from Web - see results here
  • determine a set of core principles and core values by which the university will function
  • develop four or five measurable goals to position the university in the current climate

The goals generated by the committee will guide efforts by the various university departments as they develop plans aligned with Strategic Plan 2010.
