Tim Barnett assumed responsibilities as Vice Chancellor of Student and Enrollment Services at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in August 2003. Barnett came to UAF from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota where he served as Vice President of Student Affairs since 1999. Before that he served as Director of Student Activities at Loyola University in New Orleans from 1992-1999.
Barnett earned his B.A. from the University of Nebraska in 1976 and his M.A. in Student Development from Azusa Pacific University in 1985. In 1997 Barnett earned a Ph.D. in Education and Business with an emphasis in Strategic Planning from the Claremont Graduate School.
Dr. Barnett received a Fulbright scholarship in 2002 to engage in research and discussion about strategic planning and diversity in Germany.
The UAF Vice Chancellor of Students oversees three major subdivisions: Enrollment Services made up of the Registrar's Office, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Online Academic Services; Student Life consisting of Residence Life, Wood Center student union and student activities, the Student Recreation Center, Freshman and Transfer and Orientation Services, ASUAF, and Judicial Affairs; and Student Services comprised of the Center for Health and Counseling, Disability Services, Career Services, and both Upward Bound programs.
Additionally, the VCSES establishes direction and provides leadership and advocacy for all aspects of university student services at the main campus and UAF's six community campuses.
In addition to his work, Dr. Barnett enjoys spending time with his family, flying and when the weather is warm playing Frisbee golf.
