INTRAMURAL SOFTBALL RULES

ASA Slow pitch softball rules will apply in all cases except where special intramural rules apply.

TEAMS:

1. A team will consist of ten (10) players. A team may start play with as few as eight (8).
CO-REC: Five (5) men and five (5) women. At any time during a contest the number of men may exceed the number of women by only one (1) and the number of women may exceed the number of men by only one (1).

EQUIPMENT:

1. Players are encouraged to bring their own gear.
2. The Intramural Department does have some equipment but cannot supply mitts, gloves, and bats for everyone.
3. The 12-inch ball will be used for the men and the 11-inch ball for the women.
4. A valid ASUAF sticker/ID or SRC card is required. No I.D. means NO playing!

TIME:

1. A game will consist of six (6) innings or forty-five (45) minutes whichever occurs first.
2. The scorer will start the game clock at GAME TIME or five (5) minutes after the previous game.
3. If time limit expires, play out the inning.

BATTING:

1. No bunting.
2. Players are given a four (4) ball three (3) strike count. A foul ball that is not caught is considered a strike even on the third strike.
3. Teams may choose to bat ten (10) or twelve (12) players. If they choose twelve (12) they must finish the game with twelve (12) and extra players must be one male/female.
CO-REC: Teams must alternate sexes in the batting order. 1. You must keep the same batting order. You may have two (2) batters of the same sex follow each other if batting only nine (9) players. No out will be called.
2. If a pitcher walks a male batter, he automatically goes to second. The next batter (female only) has the option of walking or hitting.

PITCHING:

Slow pitch requires an arc of at least six (6) feet and a maximum of twelve (12).

BASE RUNNERS:

1. Runners may not leave the base until the pitched ball has crossed the plate.
2. Sliding is legal.
3. Courtesy runners are not allowed.

FIELDING:

No fake tags.
CO-REC: Defensive positioning shall include two (2) males and two (2) females in the outfield, two (2) males and two (2) females in the infield, and one (1) male and one (1) female in the pitcher-catcher positions.
