BASKETBALL RULES

These rules are representative of current National Federation of State High Schools Association rules with the following UAF Intramural emphases and modifications.
PRE-GAME:
- All players must have signed the Waiver of Consent for Emergency Treatment on the team entry form.
- All players must have paid their individual $5 entry fee.
- All players must show their valid polar express card (with an active SRC membership) to the game supervisor. If players do not have their polar express card, they must show their semester payment receipt and a picture I.D.
- All players must be listed on the team roster – Team captains can make changes to team rosters, 24 hours in advance. Roster additions are allowed until the last week of play.
GAME TIME:
- Game time is forfeit time. The clock will run and if a team is still not ready to play within five (5) minutes, the game will be forfeited.
- Each team will consist of five (5) players. A team may start with four (4) players. If for some reason during the game, a team consists of less than four (4) players, the game will then be forfeited.
- A game consists of two (2) seventeen (17) minute halves with a three (3) minute halftime.
- During the last two (2) minutes of the game, the clock will stop for any dead ball.
- Each team one sixty (60) second time out per half that do not carry over.
- Any player that is bleeding must leave the game immediately. The bleeding must be stopped and the wound securely covered with a bandage before that player can continue.
UNIFORMS:
- Brimmed hats and jewelry cannot be worn.
- No braces or supports that may cause other players harm will be permitted.
- The league schedule will determine which team will wear light and dark.
ALTERNATE POSSESSIONS:
- The game will begin with a jump ball. Every jump ball called from then on will be an alternate possession.
- An alternate possession throw-in will result when:
- A held ball occurs
- The ball goes out of bounds and was simultaneously held by two (2) opponents
- A double free throw violation occurs
- A live ball lodges on the basket support
- Simultaneous double personal or technical fouls
- Simultaneous goal tending or basket interference violations
FOULS:
- Bonus throws will be awarded on the seventh team foul in each half.
- Double bonus will be awarded on the tenth team foul in each half.
- An intentional foul will result in two (2) free throws plus the ball out of bounds.
- Technical fouls will not be shot. The opposing team will automatically receive three (3) points and the ball.
- A player who receives their fifth personal foul will be disqualified from the game.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Substitutions can enter the game at a dead ball after being beckoned by the official(s).
EJECTIONS:
- DUNKING WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC EJECTION FOR THAT GAME PLUS THE NEXT
Improper language
- Unsporting conduct
- Hanging on the rim or basket supports during warm-ups/during/after the game
- Committing a flagrant foul
- If a player receives two (2) technical fouls in one (1) game
**If a player is ejected from a game, they must schedule and attend a disciplinary meeting before they can participate in any intramural activity.
25 POINT MERCY RULE:
If a team leads another by a margin of twenty-five (25) points, the game will be stopped with the leading team declared the winner. The game may also be stopped by the official if a team is trying to prolong a contest and undermine the 25-point mercy rule by failing to make a genuine effort to score more points under which this rule would then be applied.
OVERTIME:
- Overtime will begin with a jump ball.
- Overtime will consist of a three (3) minute period. The clock will stop for dead ball situations during the last minute of overtime.
- A sudden death overtime period will occur in the event that the game remains tied following the first overtime.
- There will be no time outs in overtime.
POST-GAME:
Score sheets must be signed by both team captains at the end of the match and returned to the supervisor.
PROTESTS:
Based on rule interpretations - must be made AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT and before action continues. The team representatives of their respective teams are responsible for notifying the game official/supervisor at the time of the dispute that a protest is being filed, and that all necessary information concerning the dispute be recorded by the official/supervisor on the official scorecard. It shall be announced that the game is being played under protest.
Based on eligibility - must be announced prior to the game or before the game ends. The team protesting must submit their protest in writing within 24 hours of the contest to the Intramural Office. This written document must include the name of the player whose eligibility is in question.
