Poker Flat Research Range, Fairbanks, Alaska is operated by the University of Alaska's Geophysical Institute. In addition to launching sounding rockets, Poker Flat is home to many scientific instruments designed to study the arctic atmosphere and ionosphere. They provide an Aurora Forecast.

The Alaska SAR Facility affiliated with UAFs Geophysical Institute“acquires, processes, archives, and distributes satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data for the U.S. government and research communities."

The Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing group, affiliated with UAFs Geophysical Institute, applies space-based technologies to conduct and support research efforts including Global Impact Studies, Volcanology, Glaciology and Oceanography.

This site describes research conducted in Fairbanks on stratospheric ozone, and provides an informative discussion of the formation, measurement, and changing levels of ozone and other atmospheric pollutants.

The Department of Physics offers graduate degrees in its Space Physics program. This program focuses on theoretical and experimental research of the physical environment between Earth’s upper atmosphere and the sun, utilizing resources unique to the UAF campus such as the Poker Flat Research Range and the Arctic Regions Supercomputing Center.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department offers a program for undergraduates in Space Systems Engineering, as well as related courses and research opportunities in radar systems, remote sensing, electronic signaling, satellite communications and rocketry.
