Current Students

The School of Management seeks to attract academically qualified students who welcome opportunities to be challenged and to achieve at a high level. As a SOM student, you will be prepared to demonstrate specific knowledge through study in your chosen major; to communicate effective an appropriately in a professional context; and to think and analyze in order to make quality decisions in a socially and globally responsible way.

The majority of the professional coursework in each program will be taken during your junior and senior years. If you are already an upper division SOM student in your major you have fulfilled some of the toughest requirements for undergraduate students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks . Each of your programs has a link on our web site that will give you specific information regarding your major.

Transfer Credit

Acceptance of credit from other institutions will be determined by the UAF Office of Admissions. The applicability of credit toward business degree requirements will be determined by the School of Management.

Credit in 100 and 200 level courses will be accepted as equivalent if they have the same course content and prerequisite as the School of Management course.

SOM Prerequisites

Prerequisites are rigorously monitored. Every student is expected to know the prerequisites for courses. If you are inappropriately registered for a course you will be withdrawn from the course after the term begins if you do not have the necessary prerequisites.

Consult the current catalog for specific course prerequisites.

Enrollment in 300 and 400-level School of Management courses limited to:

  • students who have fulfilled the SOM admission requirements
  • non-business students who are pursuing a business minor;
  • non-business students who are pursuing a major that may require a specific 300/400-level business course; and
  • non-business students who have met all course prerequisites for any 300/400-level business course, please contact the SOM Academic Advisor for special permission.

Accreditation

Currently, the School of Management is accredited by AACSB International, the gold standard of professional accrediting bodies for schools of business. To maintain AACSB accreditation, the school must adhere to rigorous quality standards. Graduating from an AACSB accredited college adds a level of distinction to your degree.
