No. Some students will enter the BEM without an Emergency Services or Homeland Security background. However, you must complete 30 major credits from an accredited Emergency Services /Public Safety -related degree (i.e. Fire Science, HAZMAT, OSHA, Law Enforcement, etc). The 30 credits will allow you to gain technical skills that will assist you in your Emergency Management and Homeland Security classes.   You may complete the 30 credits before starting the BEM or at the same time.

•   From an accredited AAS emergency services/ public safety program.

• Credits are awarded for firefighter, EMT, wildland fire or law enforcement certifications.

• Students who have served in the military may transfer their experiences as college credit (i.e. CCAF, Army/ACE Registry)

 Yes! You may complete all of your courses via online classes.   We understand that the emergency management / homeland security professions do not adhere to the typical 9-5 work schedule.   Distance courses allow you to log-in to your class at your convenience.
