What We Offer You
The accounting program offers an extensive curriculum for those interested in the fields of general accounting, auditing, managerial accounting, taxation and government accounting.
The accounting program prepares students for certification as Certified Public Accountants, Certified Management Accountants, Certified Financial Managers, Certified Internal Auditors and Certified Fraud Examiners.
Our Objective
The objectives of the program are to provide a strong business background through an understanding of accounting and to train students for employment in accounting work.
Top-Notch Accreditation
The UAF School of Management accounting program is accredited by the Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB). The School of Management accounting program is the only program in Alaska with AACSB accreditation.
Placement Statistics
UAF's Accounting Program successfully places almost 100% of our students in excellent professional jobs, which is the highest placement rate within the School of Management, and one of the highest placement rates over the past 25 years within the entire University of Alaska.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Spring 2011 Salary Survey, the nationwide average starting salary for Accounting graduates is $50,462.

Major — B.B.A. Degree
- Complete the general university requirements. (As part of the core curriculum requirements, complete: BA F323X* and MATH F262X*.)
- Complete the B.B.A. degree requirements. (As part of the common body of knowledge, complete AIS F316.)
- Complete ENGL F314W,O/2*.
- Complete the following program (major) requirements:*
ACCT F330—Income Tax—3 credits
ACCT F342—Managerial Cost Accounting—3 credits
ACCT F361—Intermediate Accounting—3 credits
ACCT F362—Intermediate Accounting—3 credits
ACCT F414—Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting—3 credits
ACCT F452W—Auditing—3 credits - Complete two of the following:*
ACCT F401—Advanced Accounting—3 credits
ACCT F404—Advanced Cost Accounting and Controllership—3 credits
ACCT F430—Advanced Taxes—3 credits
ACCT F472—Advanced Auditing—3 credits
AIS F473—Applied System Design—3 credits - Complete free electives.—9 – 13 credits
- Minimum credits required—123 credits
* Student must earn a C grade or better in each course.
Note: The B.B.A. degree requires 50 percent of the accounting, business administration and economics credits to be earned in residence at UAF.
Note: Students within 18 credit hours of fulfilling the requirement for the bachelor’s degree are eligible to take the CPA examination in Alaska. Students completing a bachelor’s degree after Dec. 31, 2000 will be required to meet the state’s 150-hour requirement to receive a CPA certificate.
Student Organization
The Great Alaskan Accounting People (GAAP) is a superb student organization for students to supplement their classroom experience. GAAP members prepare for the professional world by hosting guest lecturers, visiting accounting firms in both Fairbanks and Anchorage, and through their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, preparing and filing income tax statements for UAF students and the community, free of charge.
Accounting Help
The accounting program has an accounting help lab available for students. The accounting lab is located in Bunnell 225I.
