University of Alaska School of Management (SOM) degree programs cover problems and circumstances appropriate to Alaska, including entrepreneurship, human resource management, international business, regional economic development, regulation, financial institutions and markets, transportation, natural resource, economics, travel industry management and a comprehensive professional program in accounting.
Undergraduate Degree Programs
School of Management undergraduate programs in accounting, business administration, and economics provide the foundation for professional careers in private and public organizations of various sizes. UAF SOM is one of the 19% of AACSB member schools earning accreditation in both the business and accounting programs. This highest level of accreditation recognizes success in producing business leaders and is indicative of a top-notch education.
The initial phase of the degree program will lay the foundation in the basic academic areas- the humanities, mathematics, science, and communications. Introductory courses in accounting, economics, marketing, management, finance, and information systems are taken concurrent with the foundation courses. After successfully completing the foundation phase, the focus of study shifts to the major field of study.
Graduate Degree Programs
The School of Management offers two Master's degree programs; a Masters in Science (MS) in Resource and Applied Economics (traditional and statewide distance delivery available) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with either General Management or Capital Market Emphases.
In general, you may be admitted to graduate status if you have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in your undergraduate studies, and a 3.0 average in your major, and the major is deemed suitable for continuation of studies in the field of your choice. For specific SOM Graduate admission requirements, click on preferred area of study below, either MS or MBA.
You should apply six to nine months before the semester in which you plan to enroll. At the latest, your application for graduate admission with all supporting documentation, transcripts, and test scores should be received six weeks prior to beginning classes.
