Milan Shipka |
Department Head - Assistant Professor
of Animal Science; University of Minnesota '83, B.S.; Iowa State University
'90, M.S.; Utah State University '96, Ph.D. Dr. Shipka's research emphasis
is in the areas of reproductive physiology and behavior in ruminants and
includes applications in traditional and alternative livestock species.
|
Norm Harris |
Assistant Professor of Range Science
& Management; Oregon State University '01, Ph.D. Dr. Harris's research emphasis
is in examining and modeling animal distribution patterns. Current focus
is on thermal patterns on the landscape and how they affect animal movements.
|
Dot Helm |
Research Professor of Vegetation
Ecology; University of Delaware '69, B.S., University of Michigan '70, M.S.,
Colorado State University '77, M.S., '81, Ph.D. Dr. Helm studies vegetation
succession in natural and human-caused disturbances along rivers, behind
retreating glaciers, and on mined lands. These studies encompass soil and
wildlife relationships as well as baseline vegetation inventories. |
Patricia Holloway |
Assistant Professor of Horticulture;
Millersville Unviersity of Pennsylvania '70, B.S.; Washington State University
'73, M.S.; University of Minnesota, Ph.D. Dr. Holloway teaches courses in
plant propagation and natural resources management. Her research involves
the improvement of production of horticultural crops in Alaska, with emphasis
on the propagation and cultivation of native plants for ornamental and fruit-crop
production, and the reproductive biology of endangered plants. She manages
the Georgeson Botanical Garden. |
Roseann Leiner |
Assistant Professor of Horticulture;
Cornell University '81, B.S.; University of Alaska Fairbanks '91, M.S.;
Cornell University '99, Ph.D. Dr. Leiner's research includes cultivar trials
of vegetables: crisphead lettuce, green storage cabbage, and baby greens
(Brassica species). |
Meriam Karlsson |
Associate Professor of Horticulture;
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences '79, B.S.; Michigan State
University '84, M.S., '87, Ph.D. Dr. Karlsson's primary r esearch interest
is the environmental physiology of greenhouse-produced crops. Dr. Karlsson
has concentrated her studies on flower initiation under low light and temperatures.
She teaches introductory horticulture courses. |
Jenifer McBeath |
Professor of Plant Pathology/Biotechnology;
National Taiwan University, '65, B.S.; University of California, Davis '70,
M.S.; Rutgers University '74, Ph.D. Dr. McBeath's research concentrates
on biological control and enhancement of plant disease resistance through
plant tissue culture and plant transformation and electron microscopy. She
teaches plant pathology. |
Chien-Lu Ping |
Professor of Agronomy, Soil Sciences;
Chung-Hsin University, Taiwan '65, B.S.; Washington State University '73,
M.S., '76, Ph.D. Dr. Ping's research stresses the genesis and classification
of permafrost-affected soils and their relationship to wetland soils, global
climate change and carbon cycling. |
Stephen Sparrow |
Professor of Agronomy; North Carolina
State University '69, B.S.; Colorado State University '73, M.S.; University
of Minnesota '81, Ph.D. Dr. Sparrow's research background is in soil microbiology,
plant-soil relationships, and soil fertility. He is conducting research
in the area of nitrogen cycling in Alaska agricultural soils and on legume-Rhizobium
relationships in the subarctic. |
