Forest Products/Wood Utilization Research
Students learn log home construction with master builder Robert Chambers at the Matanuska Experiment Farm, May 2011.
The long-term objective of the Forest Products Program is to help Alaska become competitive in the value-added forest products industry by providing specific technical, business, and marketing assistance.
Proposals for new markets and new value-added products must take into account such economic factors as high costs of labor and transportation. Program research can potentially increase the volume of wood and nontimber forest products produced and marketed from Alaska’s forests.
