On August 10, Roger Pearson, UAGP and UAF Professor Emeritus, presented at the first Anchorage U.S. Department of Education and National Park Service Teacher-to-Teacher workshop. This event was part of a nation-wide series of summer regional workshops for teachers that are one component of the Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative, a professional development program that has been created by and for teachers. The workshops were designed to provide K -12 teachers the opportunity to learn reading, history, arts, science, math and school wide improvement strategies from professional educators. Over 350 participants from across the country were registered for the Anchorage Teacher-to-Teacher workshop.

Dr. Pearson's talk, "Mapping Our World", introduced teachers to creative ways to study the world geographically. It also introduced teachers to AEJEE (ArcExplorer Java Edition for Education) - the new (free) software from ESRI. A large and enthusiastic group of educators attended Dr. Pearson's presentation, including teachers of grades 4 - 12.
