Why Join Sigma Phi Epsilon?

Alaska Alpha
The Alaska Alpha chapter is smaller than most other chapters in the nation. We find ourselves at a unique place, both geographically and traditionally removed from the Lower 48, and must rise to meet many different challenges than our southern, contiguous neighbors. Alaska Alpha was colonized in 1992 as an SEC and followed a long but rewarding road to being chartered on March 1, 1997. Since then, nearly 120 men have entered the brotherhood. Although our numbers may seem small from the outside, it is this that brings us our biggest strengths. There are not many organizations on campus that can honestly claim to know the names, majors, hobbies, interests, and personalities of every one of their members. In our chapter of about 20 men, it is impossible not to form personal, long lasting, and supportive bonds with those around you. Within our chapter we all have come to rely on the man to the left and right of us to help us up when we fall and to share in the celebrations of our successes. Not a day goes by that our members don't get together and socialize, study for exams, plan and do community service projects, or just hang out on a Saturday night. Joining Sigma Phi Epsilon is not joining "Animal House." We believe in having fun, but we believe in accountability of our actions and holding each other to the standards and expectations of a SigEp. We believe in Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. We strive for a Sound Body in our many intramural teams; we strive for a Sound Mind in our GPA requirements, study sessions, and accountability; we strive for a Sound Spirit in our community service, our adherence to brotherhood, and our dedication to making Sigma Phi Epsilon the greatest benefit UAF and Fairbanks have to offer . . .
