  • SDA: Winter Shorts '00

For the Fall '00 semester, the Shorts were Billy Aaronson's "Little Red Ridinghood" (a sexual comedy), Samuel Beckett's "Catastrophe," and a one-man performance of a Shel Silverstein poem called "The Devil & Billy Markham." Any text that is underlined and blue is a link to a photo from the show.

"The Devil & Billy Markham" By Shel Silverstein
    Performed
    by Shannon Tiberius Luster
Shel Silverstein, author of "Where the Sidewalk Ends," "A Light In The Attic" and others, is best known as a children's writer. But this epic poem, the story of a small-town musician who has the misfortune to make a bet with the Devil and lose, is anything but a kid's story. A delighful adult fairytale, full of sex, infernal bargains, profanity and humor, presented in two 20-minute sections before and after "Little Red Ridinghood" by veteran SDA actor Shannon Luster.

    Cast & Crew Bios
    "Little Red Riding Hood"
    • TRACY CAMPBELL (Director) is a senior Theatre major. She directed last year's "Miss Julie" for Theatre UAF and before that SDA's award-winning play "Prelude & Liebestod." Before directing, Tracy was an active performer with both Theatre UAF, SDA and FLOT, in shows like "70 Scenes Of Halloween," "Lunch With Ginger," and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum." Tracy is an Aries Dragon with a Pisces moon and Cancer rising.
    • ERIKA JOHNSON (Mother) still has big blue eyes and a crazy imagination. She still dreams of being a singer and is in her third year of college studying Vocal Performance in the Music Department. She is tempted to join the dark side and major in Theatre too, but is resisting. If she keeps having so much fun, though, the dark side may win! For now, she is just a dancing, piano-playing, singing, acting fool. Erika has had a lot of fun doing this show and hopes to be involved in many more UAF shows.
    • MATT KRELL (Wolf): I'm from a Podunk Town in Idaho where I've acted in more plays than I could count right now. I came to Fairbanks for (1) school, (2) Alaska and (3) it might be far enough away from Idaho so that I don't get sucked back.
Turn-Ons: Sunsets, walks in the forest, fires.
Turn-Offs: Nuclear war, child pornography, animal abuse.
    • AMBER McKINNEY (Stage Manager): "Little Red Riding Hood" is Amber's first time stage-managing. She is a Junior "just changed" Theatre Major. Her credits include: "The Foolish Major, "Kiss Me Kate," "Grease," "1776," and &Nicholas Nickelby." Thanks to Tracy Campbell and the Little Red cast. It has been great to work with you all!
    • ISAAC PARIS (Hunter) is a "freshman" at UAF. He is "pleased" that he was cast in two plays his first semester. He was last seen in LHS' "Midsummer Night's Dream" as Quince and in "Fools" as Leon (the *lead*!!!). Other shows include "Tony & Tina's Wedding," "Six Characters In Search of an Author," "West Side Story," "Silent Movie Daze," and "Grease." And... an interesting not, he wants to be a PLAYWRIGHT and his original one act "Thamyris" (a greek myth/initiation/Taoism/sex comedy) won a "Panelists' Choice Award" at the Edward Albee Theatre Conference in Valdez 2000. He also plays the guitar, standup bass, theramin, and has a radio show at KSUA 91.5 FM College.
    • STEPHANIE STOWMAN (Costumes): This is my fourth SDA short. It's been great working with the cast and crew. Great job everybody!
    • MAUREEN SULLIVAN (Little Red) didn't give us a bio. Naughty. We know she teaches english classes at UAF, and DJs at Club Galaxy on weekends. But anything else, you'd have to ask her about.
    • TELO WALDEN (Grandmother), 22, is a Theatre major at UAF. This play will be his 12th play, his third for UAF. His most recent roles include Puck from "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Sebastian from "Twelfth Night," and the Mad Hatter from "Alice and Wonderland." Watch for him in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" in November.
    "Catastrophe"
    • KYLE W. ERCK (Director): This is Kyle's first directing experience and he is as baffled as you as to why he choose a Sam Beckett play.
    • MIKE KAROLY ('P'rotagonist) is not well. We say this in the least generous way possible. If you ever feel yourself being suckered into pitying him, just imagine the way that those people felt when he... well, just imagine... ok?
    • HEATHER MAAS ('A'ssistant) is a Junior in Foreign Languages here at UAF, not a Theatre Major as some might suppose. She has been in several shows since her debut in "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" and is serving as SDA's Vice President for the second year running. It was in these meetings that she gained her amazing ambidexterity with a whip.
    • RACHEL NAROW (Stage Manager) is a great devotee to the theatre. "Catastrophe" is the second show she has stage-managed, Lathrop's production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" was her first. She's an aspiring actress when she's not working on her degree, and tries to get involved in all the productions whether behind the scene or on the stage.
    • BRANDON SEIFERT ('D'irector) has been acting since he was a little tiny baby; but acting like *what* exactly, no Man can say. (Woman, on the other hand, have several choice words on the subject). This is Brandon's second show at UAF (he played Sir Andrew Aguecheek in last season's remix of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night"), and his first for the Student Drama Association. He encourages you to come see him later this season in his third show at UAF, Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest."
    • JASON STRID (Luke) is a biology major here at UAF. This is Jason's very first play, although not last, as he will be seen again in Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest." Jason is originally from Poulsbo, Washington, but has lived up here for the past four years.
