The 2001 Monkey Ball, with an Iron Curtain red-light district theme, was held on Cinco de Mayo -- a bit of a tactical error, as there would be no tequila in sight, and hence, few college students. We managed a pretty decent turn-out, however, between handbills the high schools, flyering UAF (check out one made by our webdesigner Brandon), and word of mouth. The night opened with DJ MookieTfunk (SDA's own Telo Walden) warming up the crowd, and who were then turned over to local grunge band Insondae. KSUA's College Dinosaur himself, Parker Thompson, took over, followed by Brandon Wilks, and then live hip-hop by Isaac Paris and Austin Weinberg. Socks puppets singing "'C' is for 'Cookie'" followed, and MC Escher (of KSUA's Mastering the Art of Falling Down, as well as SDA's webdesigner) batted clean-up shortly at about 1:30am. The Ball came to an early finish this year, with finals to be studied for and Mexican independence to be celebrated.
