    WINTER SHORTS

The whole reason behind the creation of SDA is the idea of wintershorts. It's where Theatre students get a chance to test their directing and designing skills on a different level than a mainstage. Halfway through each semester there is an opportunity to submit directiong proposals and if accepted the director can begin preparing to direct the show. If interested in directing a short it is best to look to the course catalog and see when the next Theatre Directing class is being held. This is the best way to start your Theatre Directing career! If you're interested in just getting involved in wintershorts in anyway possible you can contact SDA at: SDA-L@lists.uaf.edu. To a better idea about what shows are about you can click on the tab to the left entitled "SDA Shows" or you can click here.

    OTHER SDA EVENTS

Ground Squirrel Improv Troupe: Student improv group, meets once a week (currently 1-4pm saturdays) and put on shows in pubs, bars and other arenas.

Butoh: Slow japanese style dancing. Alot of drooling and slow motions to put the dancer in a trance state. This group is currently inactive.

Monkey Ball: Once a year SDA hosts the monkey ball. The point of the monkey ball is to wind down at the end of the semester and meet potential new theatre students and others of interest in theatre. The night usually has a has a costume theme and hosts bands, as well as putting on performances of skits, poems etc.

Famous for Fifteen: Once a year SDA also hosts the FFF. It is an opportunity for writers to get chance to get noticed for their creative work. Everyone interested can write a play and submit it to SDA. After SDA selects the best scripts, these final pieces are cold read before an audience and voted upon. The one with the most votes wins and has a chance to be directed as a short by SDA the following semester.
