    Tech Weekend

In Theatre UAF as well as in SDA, the weekend before a show opens, the production gets together and does a Q to Q (only running the show where there is sound, light etc Q's) and a full run. Here you can find important hints of how to make the weekend run more smoothly.

.) Be on time. It's even better to be early. Give yourself more time then you think you'll need, because you will probablyl need it.

.) If you're a designer you should have already turned all your Q's into the stage manager. You should still be there before most people and go over any over-night changes with the Stage Manager.

.) Keep a good attitude no matter what happens. There will be a lot of rough theatre going on and sometimes some people on the team arn't as ready as others, but a bad attitude will turn a bad tech more ugly than it has to be in a hurry.

.) Try to stay focused no matter what your job is. Know that the weekend might be long (especially the Q to Q) but if you stay on task it will run smoother.

.) If you have something bad to say about someone keep it to yourself until the town meeting.

.) Stage Manager should be there well before most people and have the space ready before they arrive.

.) A good tech can actually revolve around how well the stage manager manages it. Try to keep tech running at a fast pace, don't panic when things go wrong, remain calm and keep moving. Reviewing the script the night before and realizing what parts of the script, based on Q's, you might skip over, is a good idea.

.) Of course this is not all you need to do to run a tech smoothly. It is only the start of a good tech. The more tech's you are invovled with the more you will learn about what helps make tech better. Hope you get involved with SDA and show up at the next tech!
