Abstract:

Satellite data for the Arctic has shown that the amount of vegetation has increased or greened over the last three decades. A group of multidisciplinary scientists have worked together for the last decade to identify the causes of these changes and highlights of this research will be presented. The talk will be presented by a group of speakers and will discuss a sampling of research topics from this International Polar Year project. Topics will include collection of ground data along transects across the North American and Russian Arctic, permafrost and patterned ground, soil fungi, shrubs, and links to changes in sea ice and climate.
