| Dean's Message |
Their combined mission is to provide programs in research, education and outreach that address the science and management of the natural resources of Alaska and the circumpolar North. Our programs include the biological and physical sciences as well as the social sciences. This unique combination lets us explore the sustainable management of natural resources from the ecological and human perspectives. On
our Web site you will find descriptions of our B.S. and M.S. degrees in
Natural Resources Management. These degree programs allow students to
pursue three options: forest sciences; plant, animal, and soil sciences;
and resources management. Our B.A. in Geography and B.S. in Environmental
Studies provide yet more options to pursue exciting careers related to
natural resources. Our research focus is broad, as reflected by our, faculty
whose profiles you will find here. Their interests include basic and applied
research in ecosystems, forest and soil science, traditional agriculture
and forestry, horticulture, community development related to planning,
policy, and economics, and recreation management.
The range of clients who look to us for assistance is as broad as our research and education programs suggest. State and federal agencies that look to us for assistance include the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, the Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. We also work with farmers and ranchers, foresters, recreation managers, area school districts, community planners and the oil and gas industry in an extensive outreach program. This Web site is designed not only to profile our school and research stations, but also to give you a bit of an introduction to the exciting state that is Alaska. Enjoy your trip, and if you have any questions, a quick e-mail to our Web coordinator will direct your inquiry appropriately. Sincerely, Carol E. Lewis, Ph.D.; MBA Dean, School of Natural Resources & Agricultural Sciences Director, Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station |
