B.S. in Natural Resources Management

Plant, Animal, & Soil Sciences (PASS) Option

The PASS option offers studies in the management of plants, animals, and soils and in their interactions with the environment in managed and disturbed ecosystems, an exciting topic with numerous professional career opportunities. Students choosing the PASS option can focus on specific areas, choosing emphases ranging from soil science to horticulture to domestic animal production. As a student you will have the opporunity to work with scientists, either as a student employee, volunteer, or intern in such areas as field and greenhouse production, domestication and propagation of native plants, revegetation of disturbed lands, domestic and native animal production, and the agricultural and ecological aspects of soil science. You can explore this challenging and varied option using facilities at the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, including the UAF experimental farm with its reindeer research program and the Georgeson Botanical Garden (one of the premier horticultural collections in the far North), and the Delta Junction Field Research Site near the Delta Bison Range. The plant, animal, and soil sciences option is also offered through the Palmer Research and Extension Center, located in southcentral Alaska's Matanuska Valley, where sustainable agriculture, land reclamation, and other environmental issues are explored.
