Introduction to the various disciplines that form the study of Animal Science.
Topics include animal nutrition, physiology of reproduction and lactation, genetics
and animal breeding, animal behavior, environmental physiology, animal health
and welfare. Information is presented as it applies to traditional and non-traditional
livestock species with emphasis on applications pertinent to Alaska. Prereq:

Recent Professional Development Activities
March 2007 – June 2008 - Western Extension Leadership Development Program Planning Committee: Member of team planning and developing program dedicated to training interns in leadership qualities and skills.
May 2007 – Extension Committee on Organization and Policy – Selected as national leader for agriculture and participated on the Leadership Advisory Committee for overall national program direction across the United States.
March 2007 - Western region committee member of Extension Leadership Development with responsibility of leadership in intern WELD project development. Individual intern projects conclude in June 2008
July 2006 - Disease Risk Management for Beef and Dairy Producers – Center for Food Security and Public Health, Iowa State University. Currently a part of a nationwide network of 355 veterinarians and animal science educators trained to provide education on bioterrorism, agroterrorism, and foreign animal diseases.
August 2005 - Responsible Conduct in Research – Incorporating Responsible Conduct in Research into Daily teaching and Mentoring Activities. Specific topics covered included data management, ethical theory and decision-making, collaboration in research, and publication and authorship.
September 2004 – April 2005 - UAF Provost’s Academic Leadership Institute – Training in leadership with particular emphasis on applications in academic settings
