The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) School of
Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is considering developing
and offering a new professional master’s degree in natural resources
management. The program would be tailored primarily for those who already
have undergraduate degrees in forestry, agriculture, natural resources,
or a related field and who want to update their knowledge and skills with
graduate education. The degree would also be designed to accommodate those
who are working in a natural resources related career but who have a degree
in an unrelated field. The latter would likely require longer to complete
than for students who already have a degree in the field.
The purpose of this survey is to help assess the need for a professional master’s degree program in natural resources management in Alaska. Such a degree would provide advanced training through a combination of formal coursework and problem-oriented research. The degree would require roughly 30 – 35 credits for completion, including both course work and a research project. The project would be a supervised, practical application of a previously developed theory, methodology, or management practice. The degree option would be of comparable quality to a master of science degree, but it would be focused on preparing the student for a career in resource management rather than scientific research. While a formal thesis would not be involved, a written and oral presentation on a focused, scholarly inquiry into a natural resource management problem, issue, or technique would be required. We would like to get an idea of how much demand there might be for a Professional Masters degree in natural resources management at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and are asking for your input. The survey includes 13 questions and should require no more than 10 - 15 minutes to complete. The survey responses are not tied to survey participants, so specific results will remain anonymous.
We appreciate your assistance. |
