About the Georgeson Botanical Garden

The Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) is a nationally recognized botanical garden and a member of a national network of educational and research institutions dedicated to plant culture and conservation. It is designed to allow the public to learn about plant culture in the far north. The GBG is one of five botanical gardens in the nation to be a satellite test garden for the International Hardy Fern Foundation.

There is much to do, learn, and see at the Garden. You can:

  • Discover the diversity of native and introduced plants growing under the Midnight Sun.
  • Observe Alaska’s world famous giant vegetables.
  • Learn cultivation techniques for some of the world’s hardiest plants.
  • Participate in tours and classes.
  • Bring your school class or daycare for a tour of the greenhouse or the Garden.
  • Observe wildlife, birds, plants insects that live in Alaska’s Great Interior.

Season: May through October
(note: Garden is open but many amenitites clost at the end of August)
Hours: 9 am– 8 pm daily
Admission: $2.00, Children under 6 free
Guided Tours: Friday 2 pm (June through August)
Self Guided tours: any time

Gift Shop open June 1 through the end of August
Hours: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm
