Risk Management


To successfully manage risk at UAF we must work to identify potential exposures and develop the most effective solutions. It is the role of the UAF Risk Manager to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to help them meet their goals while still protecting the university.

The goal of UAF Risk Management - Minimize the Risk of Loss to the University by:

1. Identifying sources of loss
2. Assessing the impact of losses
3. Selecting or recommending risk management options (transfer the risk, retain the risk, avoid the risk, loss prevention or loss reduction)
4. Implementing risk management strategies
5. Monitoring risk management solutions for effectiveness

UAF Operational Risk Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and implementation of UAF's risk management operational programs.
  • Assess and evaluate UAF academic programs, research programs, and community related programs to identify, reduce, or transfer risks related to personnel, property, liability, and the financial well being of the University.
  • Educate and lead in the integration of risk management concepts.
  • Develop and direct the UAF Loss Prevention Program. Analyze loss history, trends and exposures to assist UAF colleges and departments in identifying solutions to high risk situations and activities.
  • Review contractual documents pertaining to insurance requirements, risk management, safety and risk analysis.
