Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

The University of Alaska Fairbanks in conjunction with the American Red Cross is now offering a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class through the Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management Department for university employees. The American Red Cross CPR Course is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, office workers, lab technicians, faculty, and staff. While this course may teach CPR to all lay rescuers it is designed for rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion, a credential, documenting successful course completion. All UAF employees are welcome to attend; priority will be given to individuals who are mandated to take the course.

The American Red Cross CPR Course for adult victims runs slightly more than five hours. Course content includes diverse learning opportunities, including a videotaped presentation of the Chain of Survival and warning signs of cardiovascular emergencies; instructor led discussion to reinforce the signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking; videotaped skill demonstration and practice; instructor led practice scenarios; and peer practice sessions. Class size is limited so please call in advance to reserve your place. We will not accept anyone who has not signed up prior to the start of class.

What is needed for class

There is a class fee of $8.00 per person. This fee goes directly to the American Red Cross, and after the fee has been received, certification cards will be issued to all employees who have successfully completed the class.
