2.  Non-Structural Mitigation of Facilities

Many other research institutions at UAF perform vital functions: the State Public Health and Virology Lab is located on campus, as is the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center and and many more unique and powerful research instruments and laboratories.  All of these will be surveyed to determine the best method to protect them during and after an earthquake.  This objective is to identify and perform non-structural mitigation, a term that encompasses preventing physical damage to computers and instruments, ensuring the safety of people in campus buildings, and preserving the university's records and operations.  An ongoing plan will be developed to assess mitigation in classroom facilities, offices, and all UAF buildings.
