Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology Certificate program provides students with the education and training needed to become an entry level Automotive Technician. The program emphasizes hands-on training and in-class experience as students conduct under hood and under vehicle maintenance & inspections, and determine root cause of equipment failures and make necessary repairs and adjustments to the complex systems that make up todays vehicles. The certificate training qualifies students for entry-level positions within the automotive service and repair industry in the areas of Electronics, Brakes, Suspension and Alignment, and Engine Performance.

Diesel/Heavy Equipment

The Diesel⁄Heavy Equipment certificate program emphasizes hands-on training and in-class experience as students perform preventative maintenance inspections, determine causes of equipment problems and make necessary repairs and adjustments from tune-ups to complete engine and equipment overhauls. Students work on large trucks, electrical and air systems, diesel engines, engine electronics, transmissions, differentials, crawler tractor undercarriages, steering and final drives.

Welding

Welding is an important industrial skill, useful in a variety of areas. People trained in welding often find employment opportunities in the construction, agriculture, mining, transportation, aviation, and petroleum industries. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College (CTC) Welding Program is geared for beginning students who want to learn to cut and weld, as well as students seeking more advanced courses who would like to take their welding skills further. The UAF Community and Technical College also offers an Occupational Endorsement as an Entry Level Welder.
