Summer Housing for Families and Graduates staying 22 nights or longer
Summer family housing is available on a limited basis to students enrolled in courses for credit at UAF during the summer sessions and staying for at least 22 nights. Although both part-time and full-time students are eligible for summer family housing, full-time students have priority. Full-time status is defined by the following minimums: three credits during Three-Week Sessions, six credits during Six-Week Session, twelve credits over the course of the summer.
Apartments come fully furnished, and include cable and ethernet connections, electricity and laundry facilities. Residents provide their own linens, cookware, dishes and utensils. Apartments have local phone service (you provide the phone). All residential facilities are smoke and pet free. Students accompanied by a spouse must provide a marriage certificate. Only immediate family members may reside with the enrolled student.
To apply, complete the Summer Session Family, Employee, Graduate and Non-traditional Student Housing Application. Print the page. Please read the form carefully and then fill it out. Send it in along with the $50 application fee. You can send a check or money order, or complete the credit card information on the form with a MasterCard or Visa. If applicable, please print, complete and send the Financial Inter-Dependance Form or marriage certificate also. You will receive written confirmation of acceptance and a receipt for your application fee. The application is not a guarantee of an apartment. You will be contacted by Residence Life when an apartment becomes available.
We encourage you to send in your application as early as possible. Waiting lists are established on the basis of our receipt of your application. All apartment preferences are honored on a first-received, first-served basis.
When you are offered an apartment you must respond by the date indicated in the offer letter, and submit 1/2 of the damage/reservation deposit. The deposit for Student Family Housing totals $600. This deposit will be returned when you check out according to appropriate procedures (less any outstanding charges). Once you check into housing, you must sign a Summer Session Occupancy Agreement and pay balance of your rent as well as the remainder of the deposit, except students enrolled for the 12 week session, who may make monthly payments on the first day of each month at the Business Office. You will be asked to review and sign an apartment inventory which describes the condition of your apartment and its furnishings. This will be used to access cleaning and/or damage charges when you move out.
If you cancel your housing after accepting your assignment, you will forfeit the $300 partial deposit. Applicants planning marriage should give an expected date of marriage and provide a copy of the marriage certificate prior to move in.
