UAF Graduation Policies
Graduation Eligibility
In order to be eligible for graduation, a student must be formally admitted to the degree or certificate program in which he/she is applying to graduate, and, submit a formal Application for Graduation.
** Graduation Services will NOT perform an official degree audit for a student who has applied to graduate from a program in which he or she is not enrolled or admitted. **
Responsibility
Students are individually responsible for meeting all academic regulations and degree/certificate requirements. Students must submit an Application for Graduation during, or before, the semester they intend to graduate. Deadlines are as follows:
- February 15th - for Spring graduation
- July 15th - for Summer graduation
- October 15th - for Fall graduation
Finishing Your Requirements
In order for you to earn your degree, all degree and major requirements must be completed by the end of the semester in which you are graduating.
Incomplete Grades
Your degree cannot be granted if you have an incomplete grade on your transcript. Change of Grades must be received by the last day of the semester in which you intend to graduate.
If you will be using transfer credit to complete your degree requirements, you must have an official transcript from that institution sent to the Office of Admissions and the Registrar as soon as your grade(s) are available. All transcripts must be received by the last day of the semester in which you intend to graduate.
If you will be using test scores to complete your degree requirements, we must receive official test scores before the last day of the semester in which you intend to graduate.
Degree Posted on Your Transcript
After the semester has finished, grades are processed, and all requirements are verified as met, your degree will be posted to your transcript. Once your degree is posted you can view it on your unofficial transcript on UAOnline. All degrees are posted within six weeks after the semester ends.
After Graduation
Met all graduation requirements:
If a student meets all graduation requirements by the end of the semester, the certificate/degree is awarded after the semester has closed, and all final grades have been posted.
Diplomas will be sent out approximately three weeks – one month later.
Unable to meet graduation requirements:
All students who are unable to meet their graduation requirements by the end of the semester, and have more than 6 credits of outstanding remaining requirements, must reapply for graduation and repay the application fee during a future term.
Qualifications for a postponement of a Graduation Application:
Undergraduate students (having applied for graduation from a certificate/associate/or baccalaureate degree program) who fall short of meeting their graduation requirements by no more than 6 credits will automatically have their Application for Graduation postponed to the following semester.
- Applied to graduate in Spring – Application will be postponed to Fall
- Applied to graduate in Summer – Application will be postponed to Fall
- Applied to graduate in Fall – Application will be postponed to Spring
(unless the student contacts Graduation Services and specifically requests a different term)
**Graduation Services will only grant the postponement courtesy once.**
