WHAT ARE IGERTs?
Definition:
IGERTs are a group of university graduate programs training a new generation of scientists to tackle complex issues of the new millennium by innovations and collaborations that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. The acronym stands for Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship The National Science Foundation oversees and funds the programs, providing fellowships for doctoral students. At the time of the conference, there were about 125 of these programs throughout the United States, including the Resilience and Adaptation Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
