1996 RAHI Student Biographies

RAHI Students--Class of 1996 ! !

Rebecca Agnes

Nickname: "Otay"

Home Town: Nulato

Born:1979 (Aug. 3)

Family: V-8

Miss Agnes will remember the soaking slosh at the dorm water fights with a certain fondness. Be certain, she will miss her new RAHI friends, all of them. That brief experiment with Lower Commons food will not be a good memory, and she says she'll not miss all that special RAHI studying either. "Otay" says Rebecca is her favorite utterance, and give her 5 years? She'll be checkin' out all the clubs.

Doris Ahlalook

Nicknames: "Dorie" and "Sis"

Home Town: Wainwright

Born: 1978 (June 17)

Family: V-8

Dorie, who makes a great effort to excel academically, hopes in five years, to be living a good life and to be happy. Hopefully her best memories - having fun with her friends at RAHI - will help her to achieve this. She will miss most the many friends that she met and got to know at RAHI. When you hear "Holy Moly!" or "Whatever," yup, it's Dorie who is close at hand. The six A.M. run was not a thrill for Dorie.

Melissa Alick

Native name(s): "Arnapaq" and "Tatallaq"

Home Town: Pilot Station

Born: 1979 (Jan. 19)

Family: Smurfs

Arnapaq recalled that her best memories will be those of her friends, and having fun, her worst memory will be that of biking out to Twin Bears in the rain. She states that she will most miss most the SRC, and least she will miss all of the studying. In five years? She hopes to be working, making lots of money and having fun.

Doris Allain

Native name: "Dook"

Home Town: Aniak

Born: 1977 (Dec. 10)

Family: Goof Troops

Doris, who sometimes makes up for her quiet manner with a very loud boom box, will let loose with "Hey Punk," a favorite phrase. "Dook" will tell you she loved going out during weekends and will remember it proudly, but she did miss her family and her boyfriend Don. When Doris ponders her RAHI summer some future snowy evening, she will miss her buds Nicole, "Beep," and January. But she will not miss the "endless" hours of studying and working she jokes. Doris expects to see herself graduate from UAF in five years.

Marcus Ambrose

Nickname: "Bogus"

Home Town: Hughes

Born: 1978 (Apr. 2)

Family: Fish Camp Friends

"Hey my native Brothers and Sisters," is the favorite saying of Marcus, this Koyukon Athabaskan. His fondest memories are the undefeated status in the three on three tournament, and the trip to Chena Lakes. He'll miss far less the classes says he than the RAHI buddies. And, yet, he says in five years he would like to be at the finishing point in college. And the worst RAHI memory? "Women Trouble!"

Kitty Anselment

Nickname: "Kitty Dukes"

Home Town: McGrath

Born: 1978 (May 24)

Family: Fish Camp Friends

To the RAHI tutor/counselors Kitty Dukes, who has that great smile says, "You guys are great!" She will not remember fondly her belly flop into the pool, or in her homesickness, that she calls lovesickness. Kitty who participated in RAHI with the help of an Alyeska Oil Pipeline Service Company Scholarship, says her best RAHI memory will be getting satisfactory grades. In five years? Look for participating in a family business, and perhaps having a kid.

Brian Bosco

Native name: "Qavyuayuk"

Home Town: Chefornak

Born: 1978 (Aug. 26)

Family: Smurfs

Qavyuayuk would, in 5 years, see himself subsistence hunting and fishing, and he will miss the RAHI people who are his friends. This NYO athlete in those future years will look back at RAHI memories and fondly recall the new friends here much more favorably than his course book and homework, and biking back from Twin Bears (he ran out of food and drink and "bonked"). This man favors "Waqaa" as his most favored phrase.

Rachel Burmeister

Native name: "Moxy"

Home Town: Nome

Born: 1979 (Jan. 14 )

Family: Lil' Rascals

Rachel's trademark saying is "I'll do it tomorrow." Rachel will best remember playing volleyball with lots of people and laughing at Carl. Her worst recollection will be dozing off during class tied, no doubt, with another worst memory of being discovered, no, not as a budding star, but searching for dust mites under an Upward Bound bed at a most awkward hour. She will miss all the people the most, but the curfew ranks low on her memory scale. Moxy hopes to be finishing college in the next half decade.

Tawyna Connor

Native name: "Taha"

Home Town: Anderson

Born: 1978 (Sept. 24)

Family: Goof Troop

This thoughtful young Ahtna Indian women likes "Whoops, sorry" as a favored phase, and will most fondly remember the good feeling of finishing each assignment. Not so fond a memory will be the last 10 miles of the bicycling to Twin Bears, and those infamous RAHI dorm rules. Taha sees herself still in school in five years, hence on the road to becoming a veterinarian (she loves all animals).

Annie Cowell

Home Town: Fairbanks

Born: 1978 (Aug. 23)

Family: The Natives

This Fairbanksan could be heard saying, "smile it does a body good," her most embraced saying. Commons food will rank low on her memory scale, way down below Twin Bears, especially Carl diving onto a canoe and Josh heading off into the water up to whatever it was. Annie lives the closest to the RAHI dorm of any RAHIer in history, perhaps a third of a mile. In five years she would like to be opening her own day care business.

Roy Craft

Nickname: "Skinny"

Home Town: Nome/Valdez

Born: 1979 (July 30)

Family: Fish Camp Friends

Skinny, "Hey ah," (Just his favorite saying). Aren't you the one whose last memory is going to fish camp, and that missed most at RAHI will be friends, especially Howard, Sabrina and Gladys.

Shaving cream up the nose was not a good thing according to Roy, he knows from experience. We will have to check Roy out in five years to learn what he will be doing.

Alphonsus Damian

Nickname: "Phonz"

Home Town: Alakanuk

Born: 1977 (Sept. 3)

Family: V-8

Alphonsus has a favorite saying these six weeks: "Give me my nipple." He will recall everything at RAHI as his best memories, except the homework. Phonz will miss chatting with good friends. Oh yes, getting up so early in the morning during summer will be missed the least. In less than six years he hopes to be going to school.

Howard Darling

Nickname: "Juwar"

Home Town: Nulato

Born: 1980 (Jan. 3)

Family: The Natives

Juwar has a favorite single word statement: "So?" He wishes to remain discreet in revealing his worst memory and directs us to Sabrina for part of the information. He won't mince words on the worst memory category however: Being out of shape. But he'll easily describe the best memory as being undefeated at the 3 on 3 tournament. He will miss Roy, Sabrina and Gladlys the most. To finish college in five years is his hope.

Carl Demientieff

Nickname: "Mandaman"

Home Town: Nenana

Born: 1978 (April 8)

Family: Goof Troop

Carl's least-liked memory will be diving into a canoe, "falling into" says he, during Dizzy Izzy. He who favors the utterance "like ahh," will bestrecall the women in the Wood Center, but alas, not the commons food. Carl hopes to be a news reporter in five years hence.

Sabrina Demmert

Nick Name: "Brina"

Home Town: Klawock

Born: 1979 (July 23)

Family: Fish Camp Friends

Brina will move right along between now and five years from now, hoping to be in graduate school she says. Now she's going to miss her RAHI friends, especially Gladys, Roy, and Howard. And great memories for her will be her family's team effort in the Twin Bears Fun Olympics, and just watching chubby bunny; her bad memory- the worst actually- will remain getting dropped into the "stink lake" at Twin Bears. The greasy food will not be missed (you know, that food everyone asks for at the Wood Center).

Nicole Gallahorn

Nickname: "Nikki"

Home Town: Kotzebue

Born: 1978 (Sept. 21)

Family: Smurfs

Nikki will recall the best of RAHI in this order: 1) Meeting all her new friends, 2) The Oobie and Doobie, and 3) Twin Bears, but she has no worst memories. She will miss her RAHI buddies the most, and "Adii!" is her most favorite saying. At year number five from now Nikki hopes to have graduated from UAF and working in her chosen career field.
