Alaska Native Dance 2007

Instructor: Jessica Hunt

Course Description: The objective of this course is to learn to sing and perform a variety of Alaska Native dances, understanding the cultural importance of the many dances for each Native Alaskan group. The majority of the dances taught are Yup'ik and Iñupiaq dances.

Students will:

  • Gain a broader perspective of the different styles of Alaska Native Dancing
  • learn to drum, sing, and dance songs taught in class
  • understand the importance of dance to Alaska Native cultures
  • professionally perform dances that were taught
