Melissa Tabor

"Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got." -Janis Joplin

Hi, my name is Melissa Jane Tabor. I was born in Kotzebue, Alaska September 5th, 1985 to Michael and Glenda Tabor. I have two younger siblings, Rebekah and Gregory.

Kotzebue is located 30 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is on the Bering sea. It also is the largest village in the North West Arctic Borough School District with an estimated 3,500 residents.

This summer I am attending Rural Alaska Honors Institute for the 2002 term at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. This program helps rural Alaska students prepare to make a smooth tranistion into college. I encourage students who are from rural Alaska and in their Junior or Senior in high school, to consider applying, because the experience is well worth the time invested.

My favorite memory here at RAHI had to be our group skit at Twin Bears. Our group imitated a Richard Simmons commercial, to make fun of our T.C. Sean Kennedy. Now thanks to Cheryl, our famous quote of the summer is "Reach for the stars!"

Next year will be my last year at Kotzebue High School. During the last three years, I have gotten to participate in a number of activites and sports including: Cheerleading, Cross Country, Volleyball, Leadership Club, Kotzebue Youth Court, National Honors Society, and Secretary for my class. Cross Country had to be the most demanding. It took a lot of discipline and hard work for me to proudly say I got through the season.

In five years I will graduate from college, and I hope to attend either Brown University or Dartmouth College.
