Wendy Klinker

Hey how's it going everybody? My name is Wendy Klinker and I am a swimming instructor for RAHI 2001.

I graduated from University of Alaska Fairbanks in May of 2000; I majored in Social Work and minored in Education. Since I graduated I have been a diving instructor for West Valley High, Lathrop High, and Palmer High School. I also work as a Youth Counselor and a borough lifeguard for the Hammy, Marysih, and Wescott Swimming Pools.

I think swimming is great, it's the best sport around. It not only gives you a great workout, it relaxes you after a hard day of classes. I began swimming when I was 6 years old; I enjoy it and I hope others will as well.

I hope that each and every one of these kids will learn about the safety around lakes, rivers, and oceans. It is important to know how to swim especially when one lives in an area with a strong current. Keep in mind Alaska has the highest rate of drowning in the United States. Remember always wear a lifejacket! But of course all work and no play is a boring way to go, so in this course you will also learn how to spring board dive, synchronize swim, and play water polo.

The course I am teaching ranges from beginners to advanced swimmers. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this class meets at the Patty Pool. This course is a no credit earned-pass/fail course. At the end of six weeks Red Cross Certification can be earned.
