Marian Marie Petla

Marian Marie Petla is from New Stuyahok, Alaska. She was born on June 8th, and she is19 years old. She graduated from High School this past May.

Her parents are Andrew and Mary Ann Petla. She has five brothers for whom she's extremely fond of(Andrew Jr. ,Sonny, Alex, Antone, and Alvin).

On spare time, Marian, also called Issum by close friends, participated in Cross Country Running, Volleyball, Basketball, and Native Youth Olympics. She definitely was an asset to Chief Ivan Blunka High School.

Issum's greatest accomplishments were graduating from high school as Valedictorian, and getting excepted to RAHI.

Marians favorite Teacher and T/C(Tutor/Counselor) for the 2001 RAHI Session so far, is Christine Dulany, because she is so understanding. The most awesome T/C to Issum is Kara, Marian explained because..."She's sooo cool!"

"My favorite food is boiled moose meat, because it tastes so good!" Marion says, and her favorite color is definitely green. And she loves to play volleyball and talk on the phone when she has time to spare.

She mainly listens to rap. She likes artists such as Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Missy Misdeamor Elliot. On top of that, she's cool with listening to all types of music.

Moving unto the important things.... She says her most memorable moment here at RAHI, was on her birthday. June 8th, as mentioned before. We planned a surprise party for her! Almost all 53 students fitted in her dorm room(at least it felt like all 53... it was like taking a sauna). You should have seen her face, it was cute... a little excitement and some unexpected dismay. Enjoying rootbeer floats, singing happy birthday, and watching Issum attempt blowing all of her candles out, but they just kept lighting up again.

Speaking to a person Marian doesnt know, she explains herself in these words,"I am short and sweet. I love to talk once I get to know a person. I am the kindest, funniest, nicest person ever!"

Her rolemodel is Marilyn Konukpeok, because she achieved a lot in life(and Marian wants to do just that).

She can see herself in five years, as becoming an elementary teacher and working in New Stuyahok. In ten years, she will be taking care of her two children and still teaching in New Stuyahok. She also wants to speak and understand her Yup'ik language fluently.
