Fourth Year Pre-Tenure Review (UNAC)
Guidelines for 4th Year Comprehensive and Diagnostic Review
NOTE: Preparation of the Comprehensive Activities Reports for the AY16-17 review files can be done using the Word document below (see Part III below). The use of Faculty 180 is not required to create the Comprehensive Activities Report portion of the review file, as Faculty 180 does not have all the historical information loaded which covers the full review period.
All faculty undergoing pre-tenure review in AY16-17 must submit their review binder as scheduled, and shall also submit their Annual Activity Report for AY15-16 via Faculty 180 by October 2, 2016. Please see Provost's Henrich's memorandum for additional information.
All faculty in the United Academics-AAUP/AFT bargaining unit, in a tenure-track position will undergo retention review in their 4th appointment year. The criteria by which you will be judged are parallel to those in place for faculty undergoing promotion and tenure review at UAF since 1989. The criteria are located in the "Blue Book," UAF's Policies and Regulations for the Appointment and Evaluation of Faculty. Be sure to read through Article 9 of the United Academics-AAUP/AFT Agreement that outlines comprehensive and diagnostic review.
The deadline for submitting materials for 4th Year Comprehensive Pre-Tenure Review to your dean or director is October 2, 2016.
The materials at this site are designed to assist you in preparing your 4th-Year Comprehensive Pre-Tenure Review file. Your file should include material that covers the period since your initial hire into your current tenure-track position. You are especially encouraged to address in your self-evaluation any aspects of your position or your record, which you feel deserve special consideration, or which you feel might not be readily apparent to those evaluating your file.
Please note that CES faculty use a slightly different version of Part III, which is also available for download below. If your faculty appointment is in CES, please use only "Part III for CES Faculty." If your faculty appointment is in a unit other than CES, please use only "Part III: Required Forms and Materials."

Please note: the Provost's office has a new promotion/tenure/pre-tenure/post-tenure file preparation policy, effective for AY09-10. The use of plastic sleeves in review binders is prohibited, unless used to include single items that are originals, oddly shaped, or cannot otherwise be hole-punched. Any AY13-14 binders received that have all pages in plastic sleeves will be returned to the candidate for their removal.
