MISSION:

We shall provide a quality graduate education responsive to the needs of individual students and the diverse population of Alaska.

GOAL:

To assure that our graduates are adequately prepared to succeed in the job market in their chosen area of expertise.

1) Students will display effective written communication skills for use in the business or work environment.

ENTRY LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

a) Statement of interest for admission
b) Written paper assignment in foundation class(es)

ENTRY LEVEL:

MBA Committee will assess quality and provide scoring.

EXIT LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

Use case write-ups from BA690

EXIT LEVEL:

Sample of portfolio examined by SOM Instructional REsources, Advising and Assessment Committee at the completion of student's coursework.

2) Students will display effective oral communication skills for use in the business or work environment.

ENTRY LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

Oral presentation grade in undergrad COMM class or oral assessment from advanced undergrad class.

ENTRY LEVEL:

Grad program assistants will record grade upon acceptance by director into program.

EXIT LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

Oral presentation grades in advance level classes such as BA607, BA690, BA681

EXIT LEVEL:

Sample of tapes to be examined by SOM Instructional Resources, Advising and Assessment Committee at the completion of student's coursework.

3) Students will develop technical and business skills in their area of expertise.

ENTRY LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

Assumed to have few skills

ENTRY LEVEL:

None

EXIT LEVEL ASSESSMENT:

a) Case write-up in BA690 for all students.

EXIT LEVEL:

Sample of portfolio examined by SOM Instructional Resources, Advising and Assessment Committee at the completion of student's coursework.

 

b) Assessment of instructors in advanced classes for either track. MBA Committee members and select faculty.
c) Student perception during exit interview Exit interview by MBA director
d) Employer perception of student hires and interns Annual survey done by Internship director.
e) Alumni surveys assessments Alumni survey that is conducted every 5 years by SOM Alumni Committee.
