The College of Rural Alaska is the extended learning component of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and should be viewed as the lead unit and center for promoting, coordinating and delivering instructional activities for adults. Further it delivers vocational/ technical/career training that is responsive to community needs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide an academic foundation leading to the enhancement of personal education goals, completion of the A.A. general degree, or as an open entry avenue to transfer to Baccalaureate degree programs.

GOAL STATEMENT:

  • Provide supportive learning environment that values student experience in lifelong learning.
  • Support acquisition of academic information and advising in an efficient manner in reaching personal, degree, or transfer goals.
  • Enhance critical thinking and communication skills.
  1. Facilitate access to and preparation for higher education.
  2. Encourage students to take an active role in educational goals
  3. Raise the number of student transfers into baccalaureate programs if appropriate to student goals.
  4. Increase the success of underprepared students in core courses.
  5. Increase student satisfaction with academic experience
  1. Monitor increased enrollment of first-generation and non-traditional students
  2. Report on total involvement of AA students in advising and the development of individualized academic plan for educational goals.
  3. Survey of AA students on satisfaction of the program in meeting personal education goals
  4. Monitor level of success for students in core after completing developmental courses.
  5. Monitor for increases in retention rate and grade point average.
  1. Advising areas to collect data and report to departments
  2. Academic advisors and mentors will assist in creating IAP for each degree-seeking student.
  3. Academic coordinator will conduct survey and report results.
  4. Advisors will take random sampling of continuing students.
  5. Institutional research or appropriate department will compile academic profiles.
