Changes Regarding Assessment Alteration

UAF CLA, Theatre Department

1)       Students will develop their oral and written communication and oral skills.

Originally, it was our intention to assess these developments utilizing video technology to record and track students’ performance.  Due to lack of budgetary funding to purchase equipment and provide trained video graphic support, this option is regrettably, inaccessible.

1)       Students will develop their oral and written communication and oral skills

Assessment Evaluations will be based upon written comments made by directors/faculty during semester auditions or final class monologues. These comments will be available for students to review. Though a less desirable format than video recording, evaluations will serve as an analytical tool.

Similarly, Portfolio Reviews will be evaluated with comments by faculty and included in the students’ files.

2)       Students will develop their conceptual            and artistic abilities.

3)       Students will develop skills in their area of concentration: performance, film, directing, design & technical theatre.

4)       Students will develop their social skills and leadership abilities.

Entrance and exit interviews based on declared emphasis within the Theatre Major has proven to be a difficulty.  Students are sometimes declaring their emphasis the very last year of academic study. Modification of this procedure will insure a timely analysis of the students’ performance.

2)       Students will develop their conceptual            and artistic abilities.

3)       Students will develop skills in their area of concentration: performance, film, directing, design & technical theatre.

4)       Students will develop their social skills and leadership abilities.

Entrance and Exit Interviews will be replaced with the Incoming and Outgoing Assessment Forms.  These forms stand to evaluate the incoming student’s interest, intents, and experience with the various aspects of theatre, as well as their accomplishments and overview of the Theatre Major upon completion of their degree.  It is in our interest to make these forms available online in order to facilitate the data analysis.

Alumni surveys will be conducted annually.  Email lists will be used regularly to correspond with Alums and update student profiles.  Information will be stored in the students file (under “alumni”.)

The Theatre Department has made alterations to this electronic submission of our Program Assessment, which deviates from the previously submitted hardcopy of said Assessment.  Reasons for these changes are included.

Timeline of Implementation

UAF, CLA, Theatre Department

Implementation of academic assessment has already begun for the 2001-2002 academic year.  This following timeline denotes anticipated progress of analysis.  It is in our greatest interest to streamline this process as much as possible.  By offering a majority of our Forms online we hope to analyze the outcomes of this assessment much quicker, and with greater accuracy.

Curricular Changes Implemented Due to Outcome Assessment

UAF, CLA, Theatre Department

The Theatre Department operates on a 3-year cycle of class offerings.  Due to stated demand by the students, curricular changes are being implemented.  Primary of these changes is the fact that the department has been granted the request to recruit a guest set designer/lecturer for 2001-2002.  This will allow our department to include THR 343 Set Design in our curricula for Spring 2002.
