Timetable – Deadlines (2001-2002):

Dec 15, 2001 Concatenate, assemble and analyze existing data.

Jan. 15, 2002  Compile new Assessment data.  Report on recent and past data.

Feb. 28, 2002  Complete report on current program status and schedule department meeting to discuss.

Periodic – Give students announcements about upcoming lectures or talks.

May 30, 2002  Begin cycle again:  send letter to recent graduates. 

Sept. – Oct. questionnaire to incoming or new majors and graduate students

 

Outcomes Assessment

                  a.   Assessment Plans

                        B.A., B.S.

                        Goal: To assure that graduates are prepared to either enter the job market or to successfully compete for admission to graduate studies in institutions of their choice.

 

                        1. Objective: Students will have a basic understanding of the discipline of anthropology and its four subfields including their perspectives on society and development through time.

 

                        2. Objective: Students will have a clear understanding of the meaning and role of culture in anthropology.

 

                        3. Objective: Graduates wil1 have an understanding of methods of anthropological data gathering and analysis, and of the practical applications of these.

 

                        Assessment Criteria

                              Entry Level Measures:

                              1. Test scores on applications

                              2. High school GPA.

                              3. Baseline Questionnaire (See Attached)

 

                              Entry Level Implementation Procedures:

                              1. Department secretary compiles data from applications.

                              2. Upon declaring major students fill out baseline questionnaire.

                              3. Undergraduate advisors meet with advisees to provide any missing entry level data.

 

                              Exit Level Measures:

                              1. Assessment test

                              2. Post-graduation questionnaire (see attached)

                              3. Perusal of graduating student records.

 

                              Exit Level Implementation Procedures:

                              1. Assessment test given in Senior Seminar

2. Questionnaire will be provided in graduation materials as a condition for graduation.

                              3. Faculty will meet and peruse records of graduating students, including questionnaire, and write up report.

 

                        M.A. and Ph.D. Degrees

                        Goal: To assure that graduates are prepared to either pursue careers in anthropology (Ph.D.), or to continue their graduate education or pursue professional careers (M.A.).

 

                        Objectives:  Students will acquire a comprehensive understanding of their subfields of concentration including its perspectives and research methodologies.  Students will be able to design and conduct research projects, produce fundable research proposals and/or publishable professional papers.

 

                        Assessment Criteria

                              Entry Level Measures:

                              1. GRE Scores of Applicants

                              2. Undergraduate GPAs.

                              3. Application essays and CVs.

 

                              Entry Level Implementation Procedures

                              1. Entire faculty peruses applications and at a plenary meeting discusses each candidate and votes on acceptance.

                              2. Prospective student is assigned temporary advisor to make sure there will be no gap in her mentoring.

 

                              Exit Level Measures:

                              1. Cumulative graduate GPA

                              2. Comprehensive examination given in conjunction with research proposal

                              3. Final thesis or project

                              4. Final public oral defense

                              5. Papers presented at professional meetings

                              6. Articles published in professional journals

                              7. Museum exhibits, etc.

 

                              Exit Level Implementation Procedures

                              1. Mentoring by advisory committee

                              2. Committee acceptance of thesis or project

                              3. Faculty presence at and committee assessment of final oral defense.

                              4. Acceptance of articles for publication or acceptance at meetings

                              5. Annual report to faculty and dean by Graduate Coordinator on quality and number of graduates

                              6. Post graduation surveys of graduates
