Student Opinion of Instruction

The IAS process is one method to obtain student opinion of instruction at UAF. In 1980 the Board of Regents directed that each campus develop a system to collect student evaluation of teaching. The January 30, 1980 resolution reads:

That the Fairbanks Campus adopt a university administered official student evaluation of faculty teaching. The results of evaluations are to be used to aid curriculum improvement, to aid in improvement of teaching by individual faculty, for documentation for faculty promotion and tenure, and to aid students in course selection.

Each semester and summer session students complete IAS questionnaire forms for each class. The process is overseen by the Office of the Provost and administered by the Academic & Faculty Services Manager (Hild Peters) in conjunction with Unit Coordinators located in each dean or director's office. The Office of Educational Assessment at the University of Washington is the agent that processes the survey results into a series of reports.

An online version of the survey form is available upon request for distance and web-based courses. Please contact the Provost Office administrative assistant, Brighton Wood, for more information.

Please direct all comments and questions about the IAS process to Hild Peters in the Office of the Provost at 474-5178
