- April 2nd: Nominations are due in the present year for consideration
of an award in the following year.
- Mid-late April: The selection committee meets to select honorary
degree recipient for following commendcement cremony. Ex: in 2006
they will make decisions about recipients for 2007. They will also
discuss selecting a commencement speaker. The committee forwards their
recommendation to the Provost for signature. The Provost then forwards
the recommendation to the Chancellor and then on to the President.
- August or September: The Board of Regents reviews the recommendation for
acceptance.
- Fall semester: Recipients are notified and given opportunity to
accept or decline the award. Upon acceptance, preparation for commencement
begins with a request for information from the recipient.
- Spring semester: Preparation for commencement begins in earnest early
in the semester. Hoods and gowns are ordered at this time, citations are prepared,
guest lists made and so on.
