ELECTRONIC TRANSFER OF FILES
TO PRINTING SERVICES AND QUICK COPY

Printing Services accepts transfer of Electronic files via the Statewide Ether Net AppleTalk network system of the University of Alaska to various locations within our department, depending on which process of reproduction you may have chosen.
BEFORE TRANSFERING ANY FILES please inform the department within Printing Services that the files are going to. Following this information you will find a list of how to reach each department you may need.

PRINTING SERVICES works PRIMARILY in the Macintosh environment, however we do accept PC files for conversion.
QUICK COPY works PRIMARILY in the Macintosh environment also, and PC files are acceptable, but must be converted for copying.
Our Xerographic machines do NOT print directly from files delivered over the network. They must first be organized by our staff.
Our FULL COLOR copy machine IS on the Statewide network and must be treated as a remote printer, printing DIRECTLY from what you send it.

Please note:
FILE SIZE
has alot to do with the speed in which files are transfered. Small text only files usually transfer quite quickly, whereas LARGE GRAPHICS files, full color process files will take alot longer to transfer over the Ether Net AppleTalk network, and will tie-up your computer and ours in the process. For LARGE files we suggest you EMAIL your files directly to us, at fyprint@uaf.edu. Or you may physically transfer files to us by using one of many portable storage media, instead of over the Ether Net AppleTalk network or Internet. We are able to retrieve files from cd and various Portable Hard Drive's media cartridges such as Syquest, Bernoulli, Zip and Jazz drives. If you aren't sure about your file size etc please give Printing Services a call for further assistance.

Printing Services is always striving to provide the University System with the fastest and most reliable method for placing orders, making it EASY and conveinent to do so from many locations around the state, from Valdez to Nome! Soon we will be offering ON-LINE ordering of simple, small printing jobs. Please see our
ORDER INFO page for further information.

If you do encounter problems,
please give us a call and we'll see if we can walk you through it.
