Just a few of the basics:
Printing Services is able to print just about anything you may need, from business
cards to large full color posters. Magazines, books, raffle tickets, presentation folders and a full line of professional stationery are just a few of the products Printing Services offers.
We use fine quality paper and materials to produce your orders.
Our Quick Copy department stands at the ready to xerographically reproduce your copy job in black and white or color.We can use various means to finish your job, from folding, comb binding,
saddle stitching to just a good 'ol staple in the corner. Whatever you need- Printing Services can do it!
So as you can see, putting ink on paper is just a fraction of the services we offer.
Printing Services uses
Macintosh G5 computers and Cinema HD displays to compose and prepare your orders to be printed.
They are all on the University of Alaska's Ether Net Apple Talk Network.
We use InDesign by Adobe as our primary text and page setup program. InDesign is used for most of the graphic related solutions. Please select the graphic image to go to their Home Page for further info on the program.
Our Pre-Press Department consists of state of the art
Agfa SelectSet 7000 digital imaging system.
We use the latest technologies from LinoType-Hell to do all of our digital scans, color separations and image retouching. The Topaz scanner from Lino is used for all the High Resolution scanning projects, and we also use a Sapphire scanner from Lino for most other scanning requirements. Both
scanners are used with LinoColor software to produce the best possible image from your originals. Scans can be done from many different forms of media, 35mm slides, large format transparencies, photographic prints, negatives or even small pieces of original art... paintings...books... there is a size limitation so please check with us on your particular requirements.
Printing Services Pressroom currently has three offset presses in service. Our smaller offset press is a Hamada VS34LSII two color which prints most of the smaller format jobs such as letterheads, business cards, envelopes, and business forms. Our two large offset presses are a Heidelberg KORD 64, 18" x 25" sheet size, and a MAN Roland 202, two color 20" x 29" sheet size. These presses handle the larger format printing such as books, magazines, brochures, and four color process or multi color printing. The MAN Roland 202 and Hamada are both two color presses ( prints two colors in a single sheet pass ), which produce tight register, multi-color work over four times faster than the single color KORD.
Our modern Bindery is complimented with a powerful array of equipment, and staffed with qualified operators. From the latest full sized multi-staged MBO folder able to fold, score, perforate any sheet size we can print, a Polar automated cutter, able to cut from large "parent" size stock to any size, a Rosback collator - stitcher - 3 knife trimmer, for booklets and magazines, a Bostitch single head stitcher, for simple stapling of raffle tickets or reports, a SRN rotary numbering machine, also capable of scoring and perforating, a Challenge hydraulic 3-hole punch, all the way to several forms of actual bindings, such as comb, plastic post, tape and of course last but not least our new Horizon BQ-270 Perfect Binder for books of all kinds.
