COURSE SYLLABUS

 

1. COURSE INFORMATION

Beginning Aikido, RECR 150
Tuesday & Thursday 9:45 to 11:15 AM

3. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This class is the continuation of beginning Aikido RECR 150A class. The student will start using Bokken and Jo to learn the roots of Aikido. The student must have passed beginning Aikido to enroll or have permission of the instructor.

 

4. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

This is a Pass/Fail graded course. Your grade is based on attendance and participation. After your fourth (4th) unexcused absence, you will receive a F (failing) grade.

Students can make-up attendance by attending the UAF Aikido club or other instructor approved classes. The student must report the make-up attendance at the next regular scheduled class meeting so the instructor can record the make-up class on the roll sheet. Student can make-up classes by writing a research paper. Only two classes can be made-up by writing papers. See the class instructor for topics. All make-up attendance must be completed by the last scheduled class of the semester.

Students are responsible for signing the class roll for each class meeting. Your course grade will be based on the class roll sheet.

5. COURSE OBJECTIVES

A. The student will learn the six basic arts:
Shomen uchi Kokyu nage
Yokomen uchi ikkyo
Mune mochi nikkyo
Mune tsuki kote gaeshi
Katate tori shio nage
Ushiro tekubi tori sankyo


B. The student will learn rolling over objects and falling techniques.

C. The student will learn ground control "osa" techniques.


D. The student will learns the following kata:
Bokken happo undo
Bokken suburi 1 to 7
Bokken Kimusubi no tachi
Jo 18 step

E. The student will be able to to execute basic techniques without encountering to much difficulty.
